„Air Knife” pneumatic method - dry cleaning solution

This method represents an old technology for cleaning DPFs. It is currently no longer developed. It has been dominated by the hydrodynamic method, which produces much better results.

Currently, top OEM Truck brands use water cleaning because most DPFs are coated (CCRT) and are very sensitive to the 'bake and blow' method.

Air Knife uses a common “bake and blow” cleaning process where a regeneration (oven baked) is performed and then high-pressure air is forced threw the filter channels.

The flow of the compressed air stream can be directed in both directions, i.e. in the opposite direction and in the direction of the exhaust gases escaping from the engine.

Advantages:

• No drying after cleaning
• Gentle on the filter channels
• Quick visible detection of any failure of filter media
• No wet-cleaning sludge

Disadvantages:

• Creates a lot of hazardous dust in the workshop
• 12-hour baking needed
• Heat may damage the DPF filter coating
• Crust layer of thicker “hard to remove” ash often remains inside the filter channels after cleaning
• Complete cleaning system composed of several separate modules
• High risk of disabling the second cleaning due to fossilization of the ash remaining in the DPF after first cleaning
The Otomatic cleaning cabinet is equipped with separate dry and wet cleaninig section.
Our compressed air gun cleaninig solution allow an operator to focus on the concentrated dirtier spots of each filter, sometimes referred to as the “gumball”.
The location of this accumulation varies by truck and filter, meaning that it is often missed by automated [Air Knife] methods of cleaning.

Additionally Air Knife leaves so-called “witness marks”, not all the DPF cells are being cleaned during the air knife process, contrary to the Otomatic compressed air gun cleaninig solution.
